Daily Devotional from Pastor Drew

Every Sunday through Thursday during Lent Pastor Drew is sharing a 5-7 minute reflection centered around our theme of The Greatest Commandment.

What is Lent?

Lent is a season of 40 days leading up to Easter

Historically, Lent was a time when new Christians prepared themselves for baptism on Easter Sunday. Today, Lent more often is a time when Christians prepare themselves for Easter and are invited to deeper faithstronger community, and a closer connection to God. This preparation happens through an emphasis on a few basic faith practices: prayer, generosity, self-denial (also called fasting), and service to others.

Lent is a season for changing your life, for turning things around, for getting back on the right path – this is what the word “repentance” means. Lent lasts for 40 days (not counting Sundays); reminding us of the flooding rains of Noah’s time (Genesis 7:17-19), Israel wandering in the wilderness (Numbers 32:13), and of Jesus’ temptation in the desert (Mark 1:12-13).

We would love for you to join us during these 40 days as we grow deeper in faith, stronger in community, and closer to God.

This year during Lent, we are gathering around the theme, "The Greatest Commandment." As we turn again to God, we seek to prioritize that which God has told us is most important through Christ - to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. We will take time to explore what that kind of love looks like, how the Holy Spirit makes it possible, what keeps us from living out this kind of love, and the ways Jesus works in, through, and beside us to share the abundant love of God and bring life to the full.
